In general, you need to make sure that you are using the same Apple ID on both devices and the same Email Address under “You can be Reached For Messages At” section. On the next screen, click on the Accounts tab and make sure that the Email appearing under section “You can be reached for Messages At” has a check mark and it is the same Email Address that is also active for iMessages on your iPhone.
